The Kodjoe Family Foundation Celebrates Girls Rule the Court™ at the US Open

They did it all! The Girls Rule the Court™ (GRTC) participants recently took center stage at one of tennis’ biggest events — the Net Generation US Open On-Court Experience — and wowed the crowd by doing what they love most: playing tennis!

The energy was electric as these young athletes showcased their hard work, joy, and passion for the game. These unforgettable moments were made possible thanks to the community of supporters, coaches, and families who continue to believe in the power of sport to change lives.

What is Girls Rule the Court™?

The Girls Rule the Court™ program is more than just tennis — it’s about growth, confidence, and connection. Designed for youth ages 7-13, GRTC adopts a holistic approach to personal development, blending athletic engagement with essential life skills.

Through the program, participants learn the basics of tennis in a fun, supportive environment; build Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills like resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence; gain mentorship from dedicated coaches; and form lasting friendships while navigating life’s challenges with strength and positivity.

At its heart, GRTC is committed to empowering young people from BIPOC and underrepresented communities, while creating space for all girls to feel included, uplifted, and encouraged.

The Role of the Kodjoe Family Foundation

The Kodjoe Family Foundation’s support amplifies the mission of programs like Girls Rule the Court™ by championing initiatives that create opportunity, representation, and access. By standing behind GRTC, the Foundation is helping ensure that tennis becomes a pathway not only for athletic achievement but also for lifelong skills, confidence, and community.

About USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation

As the nonprofit organization behind this initiative, the USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation is dedicated to growing tennis in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Eastern/Southern West Virginia. Their mission is simple yet powerful: tennis creates community, character, and well-being.

The celebration at the US Open is just one shining example of what’s possible when organizations, families, and communities come together to invest in the next generation.
