Tuesdays with Junior | Monthly Recap | February 2026

By February, the newness of France had worn off just enough for Junior to start building something real: a routine, a support system, an actual foothold in a country that doesn’t play tennis the way Rwanda does.

“I started playing tennis when I was seven years old. Tennis in Randa is not the same as in France.”

Junior Hakizumwami, Love All Scholar, from a produced short

That gap, between the game he grew up playing and the game he’s learning now, was the real story of February. Week by week, the updates leaned less on “everything is new” and more on “here’s what’s actually clicking.” The February 10 episode, “It Takes a Village to Build a Champion,” said the quiet part out loud: nobody does this alone. Not Junior, not any young athlete moved across an ocean to chase a scholarship. Coaches, teammates, and the Kodjoe Family Foundation staff checking in from home all add up to the infrastructure that makes a season possible.

The month didn’t end on a high note, and that’s worth saying plainly instead of dressing it up. The February 24 episode was framed around a real setback, “A Week of Challenging Growth.” No spin. Just an honest week that set up the next phase: competition.
