Junior Hakizumwami trained on courts in Kigali before LOVE ALL ever found him. Now the foundation he's part of is partnering with the organization that shaped him first.
About TRCF
The Tennis Rwanda Children's Foundation puts tennis in the hands of children in Rwanda's poorest communities: schools, refugee camps, government housing. Not as recreation. As infrastructure. The sport is the delivery mechanism. The life skills, discipline, resilience, the habit of getting back up, are the point.
The foundation runs on the work of Joseline Umulisa, its co-founder and head coach. She survived the 1994 genocide as a child, picked up a racket, and built a career most players only imagine: Rwanda's number one ranking since 2008, fifteen trophies, appearances in the ITF Junior Championships and the Billie Jean King Cup. She could have taken that story anywhere in the world. She built TRCF instead, and now coaches an estimated 3,000 children across 11 districts with a growing staff of coaches. A Tennis Channel short film about her life, "Tennis Can Be My Medicine," was nominated for a 2025 Sports Emmy.
She didn't wait for a foundation to discover her work. She built it first.
Junior's Rwanda Arc
Junior Hakizumwami is from Kigali. Before a LOVE ALL Scholarship sent him to Mouratoglou Academy in France, he trained under Joseline Umulisa, the same woman who now runs TRCF.
He didn't know it would matter later. It always does.
This summer, Junior went back to Rwanda to intern with Joseline at TRCF, the foundation whose courts shaped him before anyone in France or the United States knew his name. He's been training and playing on home courts since June. The circle existed before KFF named it. This partnership just makes it visible.
The Pipeline
LOVE ALL found one young man in Kigali and gave him a path to an elite academy. TRCF is what happens when the foundation turns around and builds that same path for the next hundred kids, at home, without waiting for someone across an ocean to notice them first.
That's the pipeline: access on one end, infrastructure on the other, and the same values running through both. KFF isn't funding a rescue. It's investing in a system that Joseline already built, and adding the reach to help it grow.
